The Weinberger Adjustment Inventory – Low Self-Esteem Subscale (WAI-LSE) was developed by Daniel A. Weinberger (1990). It is designed to measure Low Self-Esteem. The scale is intended for use with Youths and adolescents.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 7 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = False / Never, 2 = Somewhat false / Not often, 3 = Not sure / Sometimes, 4 = Somewhat true / Often, 5 = True / Almost always.
The scale includes 4 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 7 to 35. Interpretation guidelines:
- High Self-Esteem (Low Low Self-Esteem): 7 – 16
- Moderate Low Self-Esteem: 17 – 26
- High Low Self-Esteem: 27 – 35
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 2 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
