Scale Development & Technical Details
Scale Overview
The Victimization Behavior in the Workplace was developed by Aquino, K., Grover, S. L., Bradfield, M., & Allen, D. G. (1999). It is designed to measure Workplace Victimization. The scale is intended for use with Working adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 8 items organized into 2 factors/subscales: Indirect Victimization, Direct Victimization.
| Factor / Subscale | Items | N |
|---|---|---|
| Indirect Victimization | 1,2,3,4 | 4 |
| Direct Victimization | 5,6,7,8 | 4 |
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Never, 2 = One to three times, 3 = Four to six times, 4 = Seven to nine times, 5 = More than ten times.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 8 to 40. Interpretation guidelines:
- No victimization: 8 – 8
- Infrequent victimization: 9 – 16
- Occasional victimization: 17 – 24
- Frequent victimization: 25 – 40
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Indirect victimization alpha = .81, Direct victimization alpha = .76.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 3 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
