Scale Overview
The Verbal Management Behaviour Scale – VMBS was developed by Gisela Mohr (2004). It is designed to measure Verbal communication behavior of leaders. The scale is intended for use with Employees.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 6 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Not at all true, 2 = Slightly true, 3 = Moderately true, 4 = Mostly true, 5 = Completely true.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 6 to 30. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low perceived communication behavior: 6 – 17
- Moderate perceived communication behavior: 18 – 24
- High perceived communication behavior: 25 – 30
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alpha = .82.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 2 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
