Scale Overview
The Vaux Social Support Record – SSR was developed by Alan Vaux (1988). It is designed to measure Social Support. The scale is intended for use with Elementary school students (grades 1-6).
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 9 items organized into 3 factors/subscales: School Support, Family Support, Friend Support.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Not at all, 2 = Some, 3 = A lot.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 9 to 27. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Social Support: 9 – 15
- Moderate Social Support: 16 – 22
- High Social Support: 23 – 27
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
