Scale Overview
The Transgression Narrative Test of Forgiveness – TNTF was developed by Jack W. Berry, Everett L. Worthington, Les Parrott, Lynn E. O’Connor, Nathaniel G. Wade (2001). It is designed to measure Dispositional Forgiveness. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 5 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Definitely not forgive, 2 = Not likely to forgive, 3 = Just as likely to forgive as not, 4 = Likely to forgive, 5 = Definitely forgive.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 5 to 25. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low propensity to forgive: 5 – 11
- Moderate propensity to forgive: 12 – 18
- High propensity to forgive: 19 – 25
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
