Scale Overview
The Things I Have Seen and Heard – TIHSH was developed by Richters JE, Martinez P. (1990). It is designed to measure Exposure to community violence. The scale is intended for use with Children and adolescents.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 12 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Never, 2 = Once or twice, 3 = A few times, 4 = Many times.
Scoring
Item scores are averaged to produce a mean score.
Total scores range from 1 to 4. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Exposure: 1 – 2
- Moderate Exposure: 2 – 3
- High Exposure: 3 – 4
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
