Scale Overview
The The Shepherd Scale was developed by Rodney L. Bassett, R. D. Sadler, E. E. Kobischen, D. M. Skiff, I. J. Merrill, B. J. Atwater, & P. W. Livermore (1981). It is designed to measure Christian Identity. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 38 items organized into 2 factors/subscales: Belief Component, Christian Walk Component.

Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 38 to 152. Interpretation guidelines:
- Total Score Range (Higher scores indicate stronger Christian identity): 38 – 152
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.86.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
