Scale Overview
The The Responsible Assertion Scale – RAS was developed by E. D. R. Williams, R. Akridge (1996). It is designed to measure Responsible Assertion. The scale is intended for use with Adults.

This instrument consists of 21 items organized into 2 factors/subscales: Assertion Factor, Respect Factor.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Almost Never, 2 = Not Often, 3 = Sometimes, 4 = Fairly Often, 5 = Very Often.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 20 to 100. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Responsible Assertion: 20 – 50
- Moderate Responsible Assertion: 51 – 80
- High Responsible Assertion: 81 – 100

Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Not specified.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
