The Teenager Experience of Racial Socialization – TERS was developed by Howard C. Stevenson, Jr. (1996). It is designed to measure Racial Socialization. The scale is intended for use with African American adolescents.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 40 items organized into 5 factors/subscales: Cultural Coping with Antagonism (CCA), Cultural Pride Reinforcement (CPR), Cultural Appreciation of Legacy (CAL), Cultural Alertness to Discrimination (CAD), Cultural Endorsement of the Mainstream (CEM).

Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of CCA: .85-.89, CPR: .81-.83, CAL: .73-.77, CAD: .76-.81, CEM: .64-.71.
Administration
