Scale Overview
The Teachers’ Sense of Efficacy Scale – TSES (Long Form) was developed by Megan Tschannen-Moran & Anita Woolfolk Hoy (2001). It is designed to measure Teacher Self-Efficacy. The scale is intended for use with Teachers.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 24 items organized into 3 factors/subscales: Efficacy in Student Engagement, Efficacy in Instructional Strategies, Efficacy in Classroom Management.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Nothing, 2 = 2, 3 = Very Little, 4 = 4, 5 = Some Influence, 6 = 6, 7 = Quite a Bit, 8 = 8, 9 = A Great Deal.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 24 to 216. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Efficacy: 24 – 96
- Moderate Efficacy: 97 – 168
- High Efficacy: 169 – 216
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.94.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
