Scale Overview
The Teachers’ Judgments about Ethical Violations Survey – TJEVS was developed by Barrett, D. E., et al. (2012). It is designed to measure Teachers’ judgments about ethical and unethical behaviors. The scale is intended for use with Preservice and practicing teachers.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 41 items organized into 4 factors/subscales: Personal Harm, Carelessness, Public/Private Boundary Violation, Grade Inflation.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a 5-point Likert scale (1 = Strongly Disagree to 5 = Strongly Agree).
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 41 to 205. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Agreement / Low Concern: 41 – 102
- Moderate Agreement / Moderate Concern: 103 – 143
- High Agreement / High Concern: 144 – 205

Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Alpha coefficients: Personal Harm-Seriousness (0.94), Personal Harm-Frequency (0.89), Carelessness-Seriousness (0.84), Carelessness-Frequency (0.82), Public/Private-Seriousness (0.81), Public/Private-Frequency (0.76), Grade Inflation-Seriousness (0.87), Grade Inflation-Frequency (0.80).
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
