Scale Overview
The Teacher Self-Efficacy for Teaching Scale was developed by Hoover-Dempsey, K. V., Bassler, O. C., & Brissie, J. S. (1987). It is designed to measure Teacher Self-Efficacy. The scale is intended for use with Teachers.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 12 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Disagree very strongly, 2 = Disagree, 3 = Disagree just a little, 4 = Agree just a little, 5 = Agree, 6 = Agree very strongly.
The scale includes 8 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Item scores are averaged to produce a mean score.
Total scores range from 12 to 72. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Self-Efficacy: 12 – 32
- Moderate Self-Efficacy: 33 – 52
- High Self-Efficacy: 53 – 72
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
