Scale Overview
The Teacher Confidence Scale (TCS) was developed by Anita Woolfolk Hoy & Rhonda Burke Spero (2005). It is designed to measure Teacher Self-Efficacy. The scale is intended for use with Preservice and Inservice Teachers.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 32 items organized into 4 factors/subscales: Math/Science, Innovative Teaching, Classroom Management, Other.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Strongly Disagree, 2 = Moderately Disagree, 3 = Disagree slightly more than agree, 4 = Agree slightly more than disagree, 5 = Moderately Agree, 6 = Strongly Agree.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 32 to 192. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Confidence: 32 – 85
- Moderate Confidence: 86 – 138
- High Confidence: 139 – 192
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
