Scale Development & Technical Details
Scale Overview
The Systemizing Quotient-Revised (SQ-R) was developed by S. Wheelwright, S. Baron-Cohen, N. Goldenfeld, J. Delaney, D. Fine, R. Smith, L. Weil, A. Wakabayashi (2006). It is designed to measure Systemizing. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 75 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: strongly_agree = Strongly agree, slightly_agree = Slightly agree, slightly_disagree = Slightly disagree, strongly_disagree = Strongly disagree.
The scale includes 36 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 150. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low (below average systemizing): 0 – 39
- Average (typical systemizing): 40 – 74
- High (above average systemizing): 75 – 150
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.90.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
