Scale Overview
The Suspicion Confirmation and Avoidance Strategies Measure was developed by Daniel J. Weigel, M. Rosie Shrout (2025). It is designed to measure Infidelity suspicion confirmation and avoidance strategies. The scale is intended for use with Adults suspecting partner infidelity.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 26 items organized into 5 factors/subscales: Snooping, Surveillance, Intrusion, Conversation, Avoidance.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Never, 2 = 2, 3 = 3, 4 = 4, 5 = 5, 6 = 6, 7 = Very Often.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 26 to 182. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low frequency of strategy use: 26 – 78
- Moderate frequency of strategy use: 79 – 130
- High frequency of strategy use: 131 – 182
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Snooping (α = .93), Surveillance (α = .87), Intrusion (α = .87), Conversation (α = .85), Avoidance (α = .81).
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
