The Survey of Recent Life Experiences – SRLE was developed by Paul M. Kohn & J. E. Macdonald (1992). It is designed to measure Daily Hassles. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 41 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = not at all part of my life, 2 = only slightly part of my life, 3 = distinctly part of my life, 4 = very much part of my life.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 41 to 164. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low exposure to daily hassles: 41 – 82
- Moderate exposure to daily hassles: 83 – 123
- High exposure to daily hassles: 124 – 164
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.90.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
