Scale Overview
The Student Measure of Culturally Responsive Teaching (SMCRT) was developed by Ginger L. Dickson, Heejung Chun, Ivelisse Torres Fernandez (2016). It is designed to measure Culturally Responsive Teaching. The scale is intended for use with Students.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 21 items organized into 3 factors/subscales: Diverse Teaching Practice, Cultural Engagement, Diverse Language Affirmation.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a 5-point Likert scale (1 = Strongly Disagree to 5 = Strongly Agree).
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 21 to 105. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Perception of Culturally Responsive Teaching: 21 – 50
- Moderate Perception of Culturally Responsive Teaching: 51 – 80
- High Perception of Culturally Responsive Teaching: 81 – 105
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
