Scale Overview
The Stressful Life Events Screening Questionnaire—Revised (SLESQ-R) was developed by Lisa A. Goodman, Corinne Corcoran, Karen Turner, Niki Yuan, & Bonnie L. Green (1998). It is designed to measure Traumatic Event Exposure. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 13 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a dichotomous Yes/No format.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 13. Interpretation guidelines:
- No reported trauma exposure: 0 – 0
- Trauma exposure reported (higher scores indicate exposure to a wider variety of traumatic events): 1 – 13
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of High test-retest reliability (kappa = 0.89).
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
