Scale Overview
The Strengths-Based Practices Inventory – SBPI was developed by Green, B. L., McAllister, C. L., & Tarte, J. M. (2004). It is designed to measure Strengths-based service delivery. The scale is intended for use with Parents and families receiving community-based services.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 16 items organized into 4 factors/subscales: Empowerment Approach, Cultural Competency, Staff Sensitivity–Knowledge, Relationship-Supportive.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Strongly Disagree, 2 = Mostly Disagree, 3 = Disagree a Little, 4 = Neither Agree nor Disagree, 5 = Agree a Little, 6 = Mostly Agree, 7 = Strongly Agree.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Empowerment Approach (alpha .92); Cultural Competence (alpha .72); Staff Sensitivity–Knowledge (alpha .81); Relationship-Supportive (alpha .82).
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
