Scale Overview
The State Hope Scale – Adult (Comprehensive Hope Scale) was developed by Scioli, A., Ricci, M., Nyugen, T., & Scioli, E. R. (2011). It is designed to measure Hope. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 40 items organized into 4 factors/subscales: Mastery, Attachment, Survival, Spirituality.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = None, 1 = Little, 2 = Weak, 3 = Strong, 4 = Extremely Strong.
The scale includes 9 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 0 to 160. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Hope: 0 – 53
- Moderate Hope: 54 – 106
- High Hope: 107 – 160
