Scale Overview
The South Oaks Gambling Screen – Revised for Adolescents (SOGS-RA) was developed by Ken C. Winters, Richard D. Stinchfield, & Jayne Fulkerson (1993). It is designed to measure Adolescent problem gambling severity. The scale is intended for use with Adolescents.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 12 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = No / Never, 1 = Yes / Some, Most, or Every time.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 12. Interpretation guidelines:
- No problem / Non-problem gambling: 0 – 1
- At-risk gambling: 2 – 3
- Problem gambling: 4 – 12
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
