Scale Overview
The Social Skills Rating System – Student Form (SSRS-S) was developed by Frank M. Gresham & Stephen N. Elliott (1990). It is designed to measure Social Skills. The scale is intended for use with Children and adolescents.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 39 items organized into 4 factors/subscales: Cooperation, Assertion, Empathy, Self-Control.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = Never, 1 = Sometimes, 2 = Very Often.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 0 to 78. Interpretation guidelines:
- Fewer Social Skills than average: 0 – 26
- Average Social Skills: 27 – 52
- More Social Skills than average: 53 – 78
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Alpha coefficients range from .83 to .94.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
