Scale Overview
The Social Relationship Scale – SRS was developed by A. H. McFarlane, K. A. Neale, G. R. Norman (1981). It is designed to measure Social Support. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 8 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = makes things a lot worse, 2 = makes things a bit worse, 3 = helps things a bit, 4 = helps things a lot.
Scoring
Item scores are averaged to produce a mean score.
Total scores range from 1 to 4. Interpretation guidelines:
- Unhelpful or Negative Support: 1 – 2
- Helpful or Positive Support: 3 – 4
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
