Scale Overview
The Social Phobia Inventory – SPIN was developed by Connor KM, et al. (2000). It is designed to measure Social Anxiety. The scale is intended for use with Adults and adolescents.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 16 items organized into 3 factors/subscales: Fear, Avoidance, Physiological.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = Not at all, 1 = A little bit, 2 = Somewhat, 3 = Very much, 4 = Extremely.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 64. Interpretation guidelines:
- None to Mild Social Anxiety: 0 – 18
- Moderate Social Anxiety: 19 – 28
- Severe Social Anxiety: 29 – 37
- Very Severe Social Anxiety: 38 – 64
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alpha 0.82 – 0.94.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
