Scale Overview
The Social and Personal Responsibility Scale (SPRS) was developed by Dan Conrad & Diane Hedin (1981). It is designed to measure Social and Personal Responsibility. The scale is intended for use with Adolescents / Teens.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 21 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Always true for me (Negative statement), 2 = Sometimes true for me (Negative statement), 3 = Sometimes true for me (Positive statement), 4 = Always true for me (Positive statement).
The scale includes 8 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 21 to 84. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Responsibility: 21 – 42
- Moderate Responsibility: 43 – 63
- High Responsibility: 64 – 84

Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
