Scale Overview
The Sexual Self-Efficacy Scale—Erectile Functioning (SSES-E) was developed by Catherine S. Fichten, Jillian Budd, Ilana Spector, Rhonda Amsel, Laura Creti, William Brender, Sally Bailes, Eva Libman (1985). It is designed to measure Sexual Self-Efficacy. The scale is intended for use with Adult males.
Scale Structure

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = Cannot Do / No Confidence, 10 = Quite Uncertain, 50 = Moderately Certain, 100 = Quite Certain.
Scoring
Item scores are averaged to produce a mean score.
Total scores range from 0 to 100. Interpretation guidelines:
- Severe Erectile Dysfunction / Low Self-Efficacy: 0 – 45
- Moderate Erectile Dysfunction / Moderate Self-Efficacy: 46 – 65
- Mild to No Erectile Dysfunction / High Self-Efficacy: 66 – 100

Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.92.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
