The Sexual Self-Consciousness Scale – SSCS was developed by J. J. D. M. van Lankveld, T. Hendriks, W. Geijen, & H. Sykora (2008). It is designed to measure Sexual self-consciousness. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 12 items organized into 2 factors/subscales: Sexual Embarrassment, Sexual Self-Focus.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = Strongly Disagree, 1 = Disagree a Little, 2 = Neither Agree nor Disagree, 3 = Agree a Little, 4 = Strongly Agree.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 0 to 48. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Sexual Self-Consciousness: 0 – 16
- Moderate Sexual Self-Consciousness: 17 – 32
- High Sexual Self-Consciousness: 33 – 48
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alpha: .84 (Sexual Embarrassment), .79 (Sexual Self-Focus), .85 (Total).
