Scale Overview
The Sexual Dysfunctional Beliefs Questionnaire – Male Version (SDBQ-M) was developed by Pedro J. Nobre, José Pinto-Gouveia (2003). It is designed to measure Sexual Dysfunctional Beliefs. The scale is intended for use with Men.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 40 items organized into 6 factors/subscales: Sexual Conservatism, Female Sexual Power, Macho Belief, Beliefs About Women’s Sexual Satisfaction, Restrictive Attitude Toward Sex, Sex as an Abuse of Men’s Power.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a 5-point Likert scale (1 = Strongly Disagree to 5 = Strongly Agree).
The scale includes 1 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 37 to 185. Interpretation guidelines:
- Total Score Range (Higher scores indicate higher adherence to dysfunctional sexual beliefs): 37 – 185
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alpha = 0.93.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
