Scale Overview
The Sexual Desire Inventory – SDI was developed by Ilana P. Spector, Michael P. Carey, Lynne Steinberg (1996). It is designed to measure Sexual Desire. The scale is intended for use with Adults.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = No desire / Not at all / Much less desire, 8 = Strong desire / Extremely important / Much more desire.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 0 to 109. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Desire: 0 – 36
- Moderate Desire: 37 – 72
- High Desire: 73 – 109
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Dyadic scale alpha = .86, Solitary scale alpha = .96.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
