Scale Overview
The Sexual Daydreaming Scale of the Imaginal Processes Inventory – SDS was developed by Leonard M. Giambra, Jerome L. Singer (1972). It is designed to measure Sexual daydreaming frequency and vividness. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 12 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Definitely Not True For Me, 2 = Usually Not True For Me, 3 = Usually True For Me, 4 = True For Me, 5 = Very True For Me.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 12 to 60. Interpretation guidelines:
- Total Score (higher scores indicate a greater frequency and vividness of sexual daydreaming): 12 – 60
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alpha: .87 – .93.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
