Scale Overview
The Sex Anxiety Inventory – SAI was developed by L. H. Janda & E. E. O’Grady (1980). It is designed to measure Sexual Anxiety. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 25 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: a = Option A, b = Option B.
The scale includes 14 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 25. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Sexual Anxiety: 0 – 8
- Moderate Sexual Anxiety: 9 – 16
- High Sexual Anxiety: 17 – 25
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alpha typically ranges from 0.82 to 0.86.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
