Scale Overview
The Sex Anxiety Inventory (Revised) – SAI-R was developed by L. H. Janda & E. E. O’Grady (1980). It is designed to measure Sex Anxiety. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 27 items organized into 3 factors/subscales: Private sexual behaviours, cognitions, and emotions, Extramarital or casual sex, Sexual behaviours in social situations.

Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: a = Option A, b = Option B.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 27. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Sex Anxiety: 0 – 9
- Moderate Sex Anxiety: 10 – 18
- High Sex Anxiety: 19 – 27
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
