Scale Development & Technical Details
Scale Overview
The Self-Regulation Questionnaire – SRQ was developed by S. P. Novak & R. R. Clayton (2001). It is designed to measure Self-Regulation. The scale is intended for use with Children and adolescents.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 13 items organized into 3 factors/subscales: Emotion Regulation, Goal-Setting, Behavior Regulation.
| Factor / Subscale | Items | N |
|---|---|---|
| Emotion Regulation | 1,2,3,4,5 | 5 |
| Goal-Setting | 6,7,8 | 3 |
| Behavior Regulation | 9,10,11,12,13 | 5 |
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Never True, 2 = Sometimes True, 3 = Mostly True, 4 = Always True.
The scale includes 10 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 13 to 52. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Self-Regulation: 13 – 22
- Moderate-Low Self-Regulation: 23 – 32
- Moderate-High Self-Regulation: 33 – 42
- High Self-Regulation: 43 – 52
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Not specified.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
