Scale Overview
The Self-Presentation Tactics Scale – SPTS was developed by S. Lee, B. M. Quigley, M. S. Nesler, A. B. Corbett, & J. T. Tedeschi (1999). It is designed to measure Self-presentation tactics. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 64 items organized into 12 factors/subscales: Excuse, Justification, Disclaimer, Self-handicapping, Apology, Ingratiation, Intimidation, Supplication, Entitlement, Enhancement, Blasting, Exemplification.

Response anchors: 1 = Very infrequently, 2 = 2, 3 = 3, 4 = 4, 5 = 5, 6 = 6, 7 = 7, 8 = 8, 9 = Very frequently.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 1 to 9. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low frequency of use: 1 – 3
- Moderate frequency of use: 4 – 6
- High frequency of use: 7 – 9

Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Overall alpha = 0.93 (Defensive subscale alpha = 0.86, Assertive subscale alpha = 0.91).
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
