Scale Overview
The Self-Identified Lesbian Internalized Homophobia Scale – SLIHS was developed by Stacy Weibley, Michelle Hindin (2009). It is designed to measure Internalized homophobia. The scale is intended for use with Self-identified lesbian women.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 30 items organized into 4 factors/subscales: Visibility, Connectedness, Self-Acceptance, Judgment.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a 4-point Likert scale (1 = Strongly Disagree to 4 = Strongly Agree).
The scale includes 16 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 30 to 120. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low internalized homophobia: 30 – 60
- Moderate internalized homophobia: 61 – 90
- High internalized homophobia: 91 – 120
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach alpha values ranging from .74 to .85 for the subscales.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 3 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
