The Self-Disclosure Index – SDI was developed by Lynn C. Miller, John H. Berg, & Richard L. Archer (1983). It is designed to measure Self-disclosure. The scale is intended for use with Adults in romantic relationships.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 10 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = Strongly disagree, 1 = Moderately disagree, 2 = Neutral- neither agree or disagree, 3 = Moderately agree, 4 = Strongly agree.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 40. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Self-Disclosure: 0 – 13
- Moderate Self-Disclosure: 14 – 26
- High Self-Disclosure: 27 – 40
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 3 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
