Scale Overview
The School Safety Problems Scale – SSPS was developed by Multisite Violence Prevention Project (2004). It is designed to measure Perceived school safety and behavioral problems. The scale is intended for use with Adolescents / Students.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 10 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = Not a problem, 1 = Minor problem, 2 = Moderate problem, 3 = Serious problem.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 30. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low perceived problems: 0 – 10
- Moderate perceived problems: 11 – 20
- High perceived problems: 21 – 30
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 3 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
