Scale Overview
The School Board Development Questionnaire (SBDQ) was developed by D. K. Shoulders (2004). It is designed to measure Perceived role of the superintendent in school board member development. The scale is intended for use with School superintendents and school board chairs.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 35 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Strongly Disagree, 2 = Disagree, 3 = Agree, 4 = Strongly Agree.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 35 to 140. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Perceived Role/Involvement: 35 – 70
- Moderate Perceived Role/Involvement: 71 – 105
- High Perceived Role/Involvement: 106 – 140
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alpha of 0.98.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
