Scale Overview
The Schedule of Sexist Events – SSE was developed by Elizabeth A. Klonoff & Hope Landrine (1995). It is designed to measure Sexist discrimination. The scale is intended for use with Women.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 20 items organized into 4 factors/subscales: Sexist Degradation and Humiliation, Sexist Discrimination in Remote/Distal Relationships, Sexist Discrimination in Close/Interpersonal Relationships, Global Impact.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Never happened, 2 = Happened once in a while (<10% of the time), 3 = Happened sometimes (10-25% of the time), 4 = Happened a lot (26-49% of the time), 5 = Happened most of the time (50-70% of the time), 6 = Happened almost all of the time (more than 70% of the time).
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 20 to 120. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low exposure to sexist events: 20 – 53
- Moderate exposure to sexist events: 54 – 87
- High exposure to sexist events: 88 – 120
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.92.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
