Scale Overview
The Satisfaction with Physician – SWP was developed by Virginia P. Richmond, Randall S. Smith, Alan M. Heisel, & James C. McCroskey (1998). It is designed to measure Satisfaction with physician. The scale is intended for use with Patients.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 3 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = 1 (Strongly positive for items 1 & 3 / Strongly negative for item 2), 2 = 2, 3 = 3, 4 = 4 (Undecided), 5 = 5, 6 = 6, 7 = 7 (Strongly negative for items 1 & 3 / Strongly positive for item 2).
The scale includes 2 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 3 to 21. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low satisfaction: 3 – 11
- Moderate satisfaction: 12 – 18
- High satisfaction: 19 – 21
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 2 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
