Scale Overview
The Safe Dates – Psychological Abuse Perpetration Scale was developed by Foshee, V. A., Bauman, K. E., Arriaga, X. B., Helms, R. W., Koch, G. G., & Linder, G. F. (1998). It is designed to measure Psychological abuse perpetration. The scale is intended for use with Adolescents.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 14 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = Never, 1 = Seldom, 2 = Sometimes, 3 = Very Often.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 42. Interpretation guidelines:
- No perpetration: 0 – 0
- Mild psychological abuse: 1 – 5
- Moderate psychological abuse: 6 – 9
- Severe psychological abuse: 10 – 42
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
