Scale Overview
The Safe Dates – Physical Violence Victimization Scale was developed by Foshee, V. A., Bauman, K. E., Arriaga, X. B., Helms, R. W., Koch, G. G., & Linder, G. F. (1998). It is designed to measure Adolescent dating violence victimization. The scale is intended for use with Adolescents.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 16 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = Never, 1 = 1 to 3 times, 2 = 4 to 9 times, 3 = 10 or more times.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 48. Interpretation guidelines:
- No physical victimization: 0 – 0
- Physical victimization occurred: 1 – 48
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
