Scale Overview
The Role Conflict Questionnaire (Rollenkonflikt-Fragebogen) was developed by Hippler & Krüger (1982). It is designed to measure Role Conflict. The scale is intended for use with Working adults and employees.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 27 items organized into 5 factors/subscales: Quantitative Workload Problems, Orientation Deficits, Feedback Deficits, Professional Conflicts, Sender Conflicts.
| Factor / Subscale | Items | N |
|---|---|---|
| Quantitative Workload Problems | 1,5,9,18,20,25,27 | 7 |
| Orientation Deficits | 6,7,8,13,16,24 | 6 |
| Feedback Deficits | 2,11,15,23,26 | 5 |
| Professional Conflicts | 3,10,14,19,22 | 5 |
| Sender Conflicts | 4,12,17,21 | 4 |
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a 7-point Likert scale (1 = Strongly Disagree to 7 = Strongly Agree).
The scale includes 4 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 27 to 189. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Role Conflict: 27 – 81
- Moderate Role Conflict: 82 – 135
- High Role Conflict: 136 – 189
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's Alpha = .63 to .88.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
