Scale Overview
The Revised Sociosexual Orientation Inventory – SOI-R was developed by Lars Penke & Jens B. Asendorpf (2008). It is designed to measure Sociosexual Orientation. The scale is intended for use with Adults.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = 1 (0 partners / Strongly disagree / Never), 2 = 2 (1 partner / Very seldom), 3 = 3 (2 partners / About once every 2-3 months), 4 = 4 (3 partners / About once a month), 5 = 5 (4 partners / About once every two weeks), 6 = 6 (5-6 partners / About once a week), 7 = 7 (7-9 partners / Several times per week), 8 = 8 (10-19 partners / Nearly every day), 9 = 9 (20 or more partners / Strongly agree / At least once a day).
The scale includes 1 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 9 to 81. Interpretation guidelines:
- Restricted Sociosexual Orientation: 9 – 32
- Moderate Sociosexual Orientation: 33 – 57
- Unrestricted Sociosexual Orientation: 58 – 81
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.83.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
