Scale Overview
The Revised Religious Fundamentalism Scale – RRF was developed by Bob Altemeyer & Bruce Hunsberger (2004). It is designed to measure Religious Fundamentalism. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 12 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Very strongly disagree (-4), 2 = Strongly disagree (-3), 3 = Moderately disagree (-2), 4 = Slightly disagree (-1), 5 = Neutral (0), 6 = Slightly agree (+1), 7 = Moderately agree (+2), 8 = Strongly agree (+3), 9 = Very strongly agree (+4).
The scale includes 6 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 12 to 108. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Religious Fundamentalism: 12 – 44
- Moderate Religious Fundamentalism: 45 – 75
- High Religious Fundamentalism: 76 – 108
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
