Scale Overview
The Revised Forgiveness Inventory Scales – RFI was developed by Kristina Coop Gordon, Donald H. Baucom (2003). It is designed to measure Forgiveness and recovery from marital betrayal. The scale is intended for use with Adults experiencing relationship betrayal.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 23 items organized into 3 factors/subscales: Cognitive, Behavioral, Emotional.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Almost never, 2 = Seldom, 3 = Sometimes, 4 = Often, 5 = Almost always.
The scale includes 9 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 23 to 115. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Forgiveness / High Distress: 23 – 53
- Moderate Forgiveness / Transition Phase: 54 – 84
- High Forgiveness / Resolution: 85 – 115
