Scale Overview
The Revised Community Organization Sense of Community Scale – COSCS-R was developed by Peterson, A. N., Speer, P. W., Hughey, J., Armstead, T. L., Schneider, J. E., & Sheffer, M. A. (2008). It is designed to measure Sense of Community. The scale is intended for use with Members of community organizations.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 8 items organized into 4 factors/subscales: Relationship to Organization, Organization as Mediator, Influence of Organization, Bond to Community.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Strongly Disagree, 2 = Disagree, 3 = Somewhat Disagree, 4 = Somewhat Agree, 5 = Agree, 6 = Strongly Agree.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 8 to 48. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Sense of Community: 8 – 20
- Moderate Sense of Community: 21 – 35
- High Sense of Community: 36 – 48
