Scale Overview
The Revised Attitudes Toward Sexuality Inventory – R-ATSI was developed by Wendy Patton and Mary Mannison (1995). It is designed to measure Attitudes toward sexuality, sexual coercion, and gender roles. The scale is intended for use with Adults and university students.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 40 items organized into 3 factors/subscales: Attitudes Toward Sexual Coercion and Assault, Attitudes Toward Sexuality Issues, Attitudes Toward Gender Roles.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Strongly Disagree, 2 = Disagree, 3 = Mildly Disagree, 4 = Mildly Agree, 5 = Agree, 6 = Strongly Agree.
The scale includes 7 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Overall Cronbach's alpha = .85; Factor 1 = .85, Factor 2 = .79, Factor 3 = .68.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
