Scale Overview
The Religious Index of Maturing Survey – RIMS was developed by R. Marthai (1980). It is designed to measure Religious maturity. The scale is intended for use with Adults and adolescents.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 25 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 5 = Completely true, 4 = Partly true, 3 = Partly true and partly false, 2 = Partly false, 1 = Completely false.
The scale includes 11 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 19 to 95. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Religious Maturity: 19 – 57
- High Religious Maturity: 58 – 95
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach alpha of .93, test-retest reliability of .81.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
