Scale Overview
The Reiss Extramarital Sexual Permissiveness Scale – RESPS was developed by Ira L. Reiss (1980). It is designed to measure Extramarital sexual permissiveness. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure

Response Format

Response anchors: 1 = Definitely, 2 = Probably, 3 = Unlikely, 4 = Never.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 4. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Permissiveness: 0 – 1
- Moderate Permissiveness: 2 – 3
- High Permissiveness: 4 – 4

Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Met Guttman criteria for reproducibility and scalability.
Administration
